The Steve and Amanda Telfer trained pacer Built For Glory (Bettor’s Delight) upset hot favourite Dreams Are Free (Captaintreacherous) in the final heat of the Alabar Southern Supremacy Series at the Winton Harness Racing Club’s autumn meeting today.

In the field of five, driver Nathan Williamson took Dreams Are Free forward to take up the role of pacemaker. With 1300 metres to run Tim Williams moved Built For Glory forward to sit outside and pressure the favourite. Close to the finish line Built For Glory found another gear and won by half a length with stablemate Double Jeopardy (Downbytheseaside) coming home late for second, a nose in front of Dreams Are Free.

“He was good, then he had a lull so we backed off him. A lot of credit to Terry Chmiel who does a lot of work with him. He told me before the horse came down that he was back, so he was spot on. He’s a gross doer like a lot of colts and I think he’ll benefit from the run,” Amanda said.

The time for the 2400 metre mobile was 2-58.6 with the last 800 metres run in 55.4 and  the last 400 in 26.7.

Amanda was also pleased with Double Jeopardy.

“He flew home and went super. He’s my favourite, so I can’t say too much. It was a quick last half so Double Jeopardy would have run some time.”

After the race Nathan Williamson said he’d felt Dreams Are Free had needed the run. He’s looking good for the G2 $60,000 Supremacy Stakes Final this Sunday at Ascot Park as part of Diamonds Day.
