Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) underlined her huge potential when she gave her rivals a start and a beating in the $70,000 Group Two Entain Two Year Old Fillies Mobile Pace at the Winton harness racing meeting at Central Southland Raceway today.

Driver Nathan Williamson settled her off the speed with favourite Forever Dream (Downbytheseaside) making the pace.

Halfway down the home straight Forever Dream had a four length advance on Captains Mistress but when Williamson reined his filly up she showed a sensational turn of foot and flew down the middle of the track to beat the favourite by one and a half lengths.

The winning time was 1-56.0 with the last 800 metres cut out in 54.9. Captains Mistress was timed to run her last 400 in 27.6.

“She really whooshed when I asked her to go and as Dad (Phil) said she got there too soon and dawdled when she got to the front. Nah, she was impressive,” Williamson said.

Today’s race was the first ever Group race held on the Winton track.

“Really thrilled to win the inaugural running of this race. We can now look at going to Addington with her now.”

Williamson says the $70,000 Group Two Bionic Chance Bracelet on the 10th May is a possible target for Captains Mistress.

Williamson wasn’t fazed by some saying her run at the Winton Workouts was average when she only ran third behind race rivals Justanothersip and Captainshavtime.

“She’s very hard to get a line on because when she sits in behind she doesn’t give you a great feel. She’s all over the place and quite lazy. I know what she’s like. Shit she’s quick.”

The win capped off a marvellous twenty four hours for Central Southland breeders Todd and Fleur Anderson and their mare Imaginary Bet. She’s the mother of both Captains Mistress and The Race By Grins winner Merlin.
