Bryce’s Meddle wins Autumn Cup

It was the first time Tim Williams has driven Byrce’s Meddle (Terror To Love) and the Canterbury harness racing reinsman made it a winning one in the $18,000 Lumsden Four Square Autumn Cup at the Northern Southland meeting at Ascot Park today.

“He’s got good manners so we could pick and choose who we handed to, and I thought Craig’s one (Cormac Leo) was a good one to follow. It worked out really well,” Williams said.

The win wasn’t all plain sailing though.

“Halfway down the back I was happy with how he was travelling. He got a little bit keen round the last bend and eager to get up and going. When he changed ground he put one funny step in, but I was really pleased with the way he got through it because he could have easily blown apart. It was a ‘hold your breath’ moment for a stride.”

Trained by Robert and Jenna Dunn the win was the horse’s fourth.

“He probably lacks a yard of dash but he’s a genuine honest horse that tries really hard. It’s really even racing in this Country Cup grade and it’s a hard grade at the moment. Credit to the team. They picked out this race and John (Dunn) sent him down on Wednesday to give him a chance to settle in with his two year old filly Allets. They’re going to stay for next week and race at Wyndham.”
