Razorsharpmiki (Always B Miki) trained by Gordon and Colin Lee was just that at Gore today, extending his winning record to two from two.

From an inside draw, driver Brent Barclay was able to hold his position before handing up to Drummershavtime. Once the passing lane presented itself Barclay released the gelding  and he beat Drummershavtime, going away by a length and a quarter.

“He gives you the impression that he should follow some of the better three year olds but not the top ones. He should go through the classes a wee bit. There’s a bit of hope in that statement,” Gordon said.

Gordon was alerted by Bloodstock agent Peter Lagan that Bella Roza, the dam of Razorsharpmiki was on the market.

He knew Lee had been successful with the family before. Bella Roza’s dam Initforfun is a half-sister to Royal Counsel which won six races for the Lees, including the 2014 Southland Oaks.

“So I bought her. I was talking to Neil Bulling about it and before I knew it I had four partners (laughter). They were sitting at his desk at Cromwell and told Neil they were in. So the horse I bought for myself ended up having five of us in it. But that’s good.”

Gordon paid $6,000 for Bella Roza who was in foal to Captain Crunch. The resulting foal was Justa Crunch, a seven win maiden.

“She’s been disappointing, but she’s got more ability than she’s showing at the races.”

Her second foal Razorsharpmiki has now won both of his starts for Bulling, Betty Lee, Rob Williams, Howie McArthur and Dave Heath.

“If he was mine I probably would have sold him now (laughter). I’ve had two enquiries, but those guys aren’t too keen to sell.”

Prior to winning on debut at Ascot Park earlier this month where he was made favourite, Razorsharpmiki had won four of his six public appearances.

“He was always a nice horse from day one, but every time we take him out he seems to take that next step. I’m looking forward to see when that stops.”

Bella Roza has also left a full-sister to Razorsharpmiki which has just been broken in by Brent Shirley and is in foal to Downbytheseaside.
