Williamson talks Winton

Oamaru horseman Matty Williamson takes a select team of five to the Winton harness racing meeting tomorrow.

In Race Three he has two first starters - New Mexico (Creatine) and Blarney Stone (Wishing Stone).

New Mexico has had four trials, winning her last two.

“She’s had a good grounding at the trials. She’s a filly with a bit of a future and I don’t mind her. It’s her first start, but expect her to be running on well,” Williamson said.

Blarney Stone is a half brother to the well performed Missile and has also had four trials.

“He’s a big horse who will get better with time. His manners have been okay at the trials so hopefully he’ll behave himself early. He’s a big rolling type, so hopefully he can get up handy and race that way. I’d like to think he’s an each way chance.”

In Race Four Williamson lines up Alallyah (Sweet Lou) who was excellent on debut and gets a nice draw at three.

“She got a wee way back first up, but I was really happy with the run. She kept closing and is still pretty green. She’s had another trial since and went really nice, so hopefully tomorrow will be another step forward.”

Jordan Anne (Pegasus Spur) and Majesdix (Majestic Son) will represent the stable in Race Five, a mobile trot.

Jordan Anne’s formline doesn’t read well but she’s starting to slip into a grade that she’s competitive in.

“This is a race for her. She loves a mobile mile. It’s a really good race for her, so I expect her to be hard to beat.”

Majesdix will start from the inside of the second row and she’s the highest rated horse in the race.

“She was a good winner last start and is starting to come back to worthwhile form. It’s going to be about how Georgia (driver Georgia Goodman) can extricate her from that draw. We’re not following the ideal one out. She’s going to have to get out of there and it’ll come down to what sort of trip she can get. She’s going well and is an each way chance.”
