Peach of a drive gets Rondo Trouble home

Junior driver Carter Dalgety produced a masterly drive to gets Rondo Trouble (Superfast Stuart) home in the Regent Car Court Trot at Winton today.

After a swift beginning Dalgety took the five year old gelding straight to the top and dictated the terms. He won by a length and a half from Kairo.

“Carter got away with murder. It’s only been a sprint home but he did it nice too,” trainer Lyndon Bond said.

Rondo Trouble was bred and is owned by Methven horseman Michael Heenan and his wife Diane.

“He’s been down here for a month and a half. He came down here for the easier racing. Michael has done a great job and after Gore he showed he had a wee bit of ability there.”

At Gore, Rondo Trouble trotted roughly, broke, but still ran second.

“We got him reshod before the race and the farrier put a trotting shoe on. He’s been wearing pacing shoes and he hit himself in the hock up high. They’ve been removed and he’s got the pacing shoe back on and he trotted brilliantly today.”

The win was made a bit easier due to a number of well fancied runners breaking early.

Kairo (second), New Mexico (fifth) and Blarney Stone (seventh) all made mistakes, but made up ground.

Bond is currently training from Lynette and Maurice Kerr’s property.

“Our stable got pollacked by the winds and the builders are only there now. Maurice’s track is grown over with grass because it hasn’t been used in a long time since he passed away. We do all out jogging there and do our fast work at Gore.”

Bond is experiencing a good run of form at the moment, having trained eight winners since the 1^st February.

“I don’t think I’ll move with the way things are going (laughter).”
