Wyndham HRC to race at Winton
After last month’s high wind damaged their grandstand, the Wyndham Harness Racing Club have decided to move their November 16th meeting to Winton.
Insurers have visited the site and are yet to report back to the club with their assessment.
“A call will be made after tha. But demolition is probably the right outcome for the building,” Club President Brendan Duffy said.
Beyond November’s meeting at Winton, Wyndham’s next three meetings are all at Cromwell before the club returns to their home course for two meetings in March 2026.
“If we get the green light to demolish the building we could probably have something in place that could have us racing by March, but it depends on timeframes and availability of contractors so there’s a lot to work through. At the moment we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.”
Duffy says scaffolding is currently being erected to make the site safe.
“We’ll get the iron that’s left off and hopefully by then we’ll know what we can do insurance wise.”
He says the demolition cost will be covered by insurance.
“It’s then about what we decide to do to replace it and what would suit the Club and the community.”
