Showcase gets reward
The Jamie Gameson trained Showcase (Vincent) is a regular visitor to the south and when she heads to Southland she heads to Mataura trainer Lyndon Bond.
“Jamie has entrusted me with his horse and I feel privileged that way. The breed gets better with age. The owners are quite hard case fellas so it’s real good,” Bond said.
Driver Brent Barclay settled Showcase four back on the inside and she got shuffled back inside the last 300 metres. Barclay got her off the inside but had to hook her out six wide turning in.
She stormed home to win by a length from Superfast.
“He came in today and said ‘sharp today Bond, unbelievable.”
Twenty of her thirty starts have been in Southland, including her three wins.
Showcase is out of eleven win Here We Go Again, a daughter of New Zealand Cup winner Kym’s Girl.
Other foals out of Here We Go Again, Remission and Mamma Mia have also won races in the south.
“She’s been racing against the better fillies early on, so today’s race was a bit of a drop.”
Showcase indicated she was returning to form with a good last start third.
“I said to Jamie and her owners that she’s just coming right. She had a couple of starts where she just ran around and went so, so. She’s been jumping out of her skin in these last few days.”
Lyndon got his own reward later in the programme when Step It Up a Notch won.
