Southland trainers have quick turnaround

After racing at Ashburton yesterday Southland harness racing trainers Nathan Williamson, Jeremy Douglas and Lyndon Bond will be back in action at Invercargill today (Monday).

Williamson lines up Aroha Kenny (Love You) in the Diamond Creek/SBSR/NSTC Silk Road Trotters Series.

“I’m quite happy with her. I was going to take her up to the Heather Williams with Hidden Talent, but she got an infection in her leg from a small cut, and it blew up. I had to treat her and back off her a bit. Her legs back to normal now. I took her into Ascot Park for a private workout on Tuesday and she worked well. The Silk Road Series looks like a nice wee series for her,” Williamson said.

Bond is in charge of three runners for the Invercargill meeting - Showcase (Vincent) and Remission (Betting Line) who are trained by Jamie Gameson and domiciled at Bond’s Mataura barn and Andy Hall (Andover Hall) which he trains.

Showcase will line up in Race Six and will be handled by Seth Hill.

“She was running home really well at her last start. Hopefully she can be put in the race at some stage,” Bond said.

Remission will also be handled by Hill and races in the last on the Ascot Park card.

“She went a sizzler at her last start after sitting parked and she’s worked on well.”

Andy Hall (Andover Hall) will run in Race Eight and starts from the twenty metre handicap.

“He’s been doing a good job, been chugging away behind the better ones and getting a bit closer. Hopefully his day in the sun will come again shortly.”

Douglas has three runners down to race on his home track tomorrow including The Humble One (Father Patrick) in Race One.

“She’s a work in progress. She has a wee bit of ability but I’ll be a wee while before I see her putting her best foot forward. I wouldn’t be tipping her out to anyone just yet,” Douglas said.

Grand campaigner Magic Sign (Terror To Love) races for the Douglas stable in Race Seven.

“He’s not at the peak of his powers at the moment but he’ll go another honest race.”

Double Quick (Captaintreacherous) rounds out Douglas’s day in Race Ten.

“We’re just struggling to get her to do things right out of the gate. She’s actually got really good gate speed but she tends to turn her head on the side or drop the bit at the wrong moment. It’s just greenness and she’ll learn and end up with good gate speed. Just getting shuffled back is costing her far too often. She’s drawn three so we’ll press forward, and I see her hard to beat. She’s a smart animal in the making.”
