Feta Go Fernco back to winning ways

Feta Go Fernco (Betterthancheddar) returned to his winning ways at the Invercargill Harness Racing Club meeting today at Ascot Park.
Driver Hayden Douglas settled the six year old mare third in the running line. Inside the last 1000 metres he moved into the one one as First Light improved around the outside. At the end of the 2200 metre stand Feta Go Fernco had a half length advantage on favourite Rise Up N Dance.

“There was a bit of everything going on, but Hayden made the right decisions,” trainer Matty Williamson said.
Over on the back straight and heading for the finish line, Feta Go Fernco was spotted changing ground.
“I haven’t seen her run around but she was going fast in all directions so that was the main thing. She’s not normally as green as that but that being said, she hasn’t had a lot of racing.”
Feta Go Fernco last won in September and Williamson says she’s been a victim of her own success.
“Definitely. She won those two races, neither of them was penalty free and she shot up the ratings. She hadn’t learned to race and got into a hard grade very quickly. She had to cop a few hard runs and learn and now she’s reaping the rewards.”
The win was one of two for the Southland Junior Driver of the Year Hayden Douglas, who recently upped sticks and moved from Invercargill to the Williamson stable in order to further his harness racing career.
“It was a freebee today which was great.”
