The Invercargill Harness Racing Club will run a twilight meeting at Ascot Park tomorrow with the first race getting underway at 3.40pm.

Midweek meetings can provide punters with some good dividends even for favourite runners.

Here’s a look at some options for tomorrow’s card.

Race One:

The Merc (Royal Aspirations) looks to be fining down, and form line is reflecting that. As a young horse he competed against good age group company. In tomorrow’s small field he doesn’t get a better chance to win.

One you might consider for longer odds is the Robert Wilson trained Cloudy (Majestic Son). His gait hasn’t been the best but Wilson will have done some work on that, so watch out for an improved showing.

Race Two:

Sweet DJ (Sweet Lou) got things wrong on this track on Saturday. She’s on the quick turnaround and the four year old doesn’t get a better chance to win her maiden.

Sky Patrol (Sky Major) has more ability than most in this race. His last start was in January, but he races well fresh.

Race Three:

Brookies Player (Shadow Play) is dropping into a very winnable grade, so he should win.

Stablemate Robyns Hustler (Shadow Play) gets a nice draw and could provide Ross and Chris Wilson with the quinella.

Race Four:

Rise Up N Dance (Art Major) has won at Addington and none of his rivals have ventured there. He’s also the only runner who’s started in a standing start race. He should win.

Sodoyahavtime (Art Major) looks the best of the rest.

Race Five:

Magic Sign (Terror To Love) has won nine races and with the one draw looks the best option.

Van Liberty (Sportswriter) comes into tomorrow’s race fresh but has better form than most.

Race Six:

Florence The Machine (What The Hill) has good form from behind the mobile and has some talent. She should go close.

Massive Merc (Muscle Mass) has shown his best form from behind the arm so he could be at juicy odds.

Best bet of the day: Rise Up N Dance (Race Four)

Roughie of the day: Havarti Arden (Race Three)
