Plutonium Lady, who is in foal and nearing the end of her race career, won the $20,000 Otautau Four Square Wairio Cup in style at Winton today.

“She is in foal to Always B Miki and will probably race in the Gore and Cromwell Cups now and be retired,” said Mark Jones, her Burnham trainer.

The four year old Bettor’s Delight – Timeless Perfection mare has won 11 races for owners Sir Loins Limited and Starmark Ltd. She ran second to Amazing Dream in the Northern Oaks and second in the Harness Jewels Diamond at Cambridge in June. She has been driven in seven of her wins including the Southern Belle series final at Winton on March by Samantha Ottley.

“Everything worked out alright today. The start was a bit of shambles and she bobbled away a bit,” said Ottley.

Jones, who won the 2011 Wairio Cup with Ohoka Texas, has been based at Omakau the past fortnight with a team of horses for the holiday circuit.

“I have 12 pacers and three gallopers at Omakau,’’ he said.

Plutonium Lady won, going away by three quarters of a length from Kerri Maguire with half a length to Jonny Mac. She ran the 2400m in a moderate 3.02.2 after starting from 10m.
